Ways of Blocking IP Address

  • Use your ISP IP blocker control
  • Contact your internet service provider (ISP). Simply give them the IP address to be blocked and they will block all attempted connections from that IP address to yours.

  • Use your internet router configuration panel ip address blocker tab.
  • Another way to do this is by using an option in many of today’s router security policies.

    This is done by accessing the routers corresponding security and configuration options (unique way of access depending on brand model. Linksys router example below).

    For example if you are using a Linksys router, type the default Linksys router ip address 192.168.1.1 on the browser address bar i.e where you usually type the website url.

    This will give you access to your linksys router security and configuration options.

    Configure it according to your internet service provider 's recommendation to block IP address you want.

    Give your Internet service provider a call and they will walk you through it.

  • Operating System based ip blockers
  • As an operating system alternative to block ip address, you can download software to do this as well.

    Many Javascript codes are available on internet to block certain IP addresses so that the users from these IP addresses are restricted to visit our website.

    Main idea behind the blocking is that the users are just redirected to some other URL. The Javascript code doesn’t work if user has disabled Javascript in the internet browser. You can call it as a disadvantage.

    Also, you need to have SSI enabled in the web server of your PC.

    One more thing that should always be kept in mind is that the extension of the webpage should be used correctly.

    Google Javascript for ip blocking to download and learn more.

    Paste this Javascript code in the head section of your HTML page. There you just need to fill in the IP addresses that you need to block and the redirecting URL.

    For example

    <head>
    <javascript> Your code goes here></javascript>
    </head>

  • Using Windows Firewall to block ip address as ip address blocker
  • You can (within Windows) add an exception to Windows firewall inbound rules blocking incoming connections from the hostile website IP address.

    To achieve this in a windows operating system based PC, we can use Internet Protocol Security. For this you need to have a windows support tool installed in your computer, which follows the internet protocol security filtering rules (IPSec).

    This software tool is not preinstalled in your windows operating system. You can either download it from Microsoft’s website or you may have to search it out in your windows service pack disk 2.

    The option of downloading the software tool is mentioned in the following steps.

    Following are the steps on how to block an IP Address:

    • download the IP address security blockers code IPSecCmd dot exe software tool included in windows XP Service Pack 2 from Microsoft’s website.

    • Install it in your PC.

    • Just click on ‘Start’ button on the left corner of your Windows PC, and then click on ‘Run’.

    • Type ‘cmd’ (without quotes) and press enter to open the command window.

    • For blocking a specific data communication type (UDP or TCP) and port number on your computer, just type the following command in the command window and press enter.
      IPSeccmd.exe -f [*= 0: Port Number: Protocol]

    • Now open the IPSec interface on your PC, and click on ‘General’ under the option ‘Policy’.

    • Select the IP block option and enter the IP addresses of users that you need to block.

Note- software and end user based applications are not as secure as the method used on network devices/routers and your ISP as there is more dependencies.
